  • Private pool depth 24 inches, safe for toddler water play. BBQ grill & utensils provided free

Saturday morning, April 20th, my husband, our 48-month-old, and I took a 2-day trip to Yeosu’s Manseong Beach. We initially planned to just see the spring ocean, but when I spotted the private pools in the pension photos, I booked immediately. Honestly, I was skeptical at first—”Will water play even work in April?”—but thanks to the warm weather, our child played in the pool for over two hours.

When you search for Yeosu pensions, the options are overwhelming. I read over 100 reviews on Naver and narrowed it down based on three criteria: beach access, parking, and BBQ facilities. When traveling with kids, the distance you have to haul luggage really matters.

Why I Chose Manseong Beach Pension

Pension exterior. Each room has an independent pool and BBQ deck

Three reasons sealed the deal. First, Manseong Beach is a 1-minute walk away. Go out the back gate and you’re right on the sand. Even walking slowly with our 48-month-old, we reached the waves in 2-3 minutes. No need to pack up and drive—super convenient.

Second, every room has a private pool. Public pools mean watching other families and feeling awkward when your child throws a tantrum. Here, it’s just our family’s pool—no pressure if we get loud. The depth is about 24 inches, shallow enough that our 48-month-old could stand independently with water at belly-button level.

Third, the BBQ area is attached to the room’s terrace. We planned to grill meat and have a beer after putting our child to bed. (In reality, our child didn’t sleep, so all three of us ate together.)

Check-In to Room Tour

Living room and kitchen. The large dining table made feeding our child easy

Check-in starts at 3 PM. We arrived around 2:30 and they let us in early since cleaning was done. Parking was in the pension’s dedicated lot, right in front of our room—took less than a minute to unload our suitcase, cooler, and baby gear.

The room is a two-story private unit. First floor has living room, kitchen, and bathroom; second floor has two bedrooms and another bathroom. Open the living room window and you see the pool and BBQ deck. Our child spotted the pool through the window and immediately asked, “Mom, can I go in there?”

The kitchen had a 2-burner induction cooktop, refrigerator, microwave, and basic dishes and cookware. Coffee pot and ramen pot included. I brought bread to make toast for breakfast, but ended up using a frying pan since there was no toaster.

Bedrooms had two queen beds. Bedding was clean and comforters were cozy. The AC remote was missing at first—spent a while searching before finding it in the bedside drawer. We didn’t need AC in April, but summer visitors should check ahead.

Private Pool, 48-Month-Old’s Reaction

Pool depth 24 inches. Safe for child to stand independently

As soon as we unpacked, our child put on a swimsuit and headed out. April 20th at 3:30 PM, temperature was about 72°F, and the well-sunlit pool water was warmer than expected. When I tested it with my hand, it felt lukewarm. Our child jumped right in without a single complaint about cold water.

Pool size is roughly 10 feet by 6.5 feet. Two adults can sit comfortably. Depth is a consistent 24 inches throughout. Our 48-month-old is 41 inches tall, so standing up, the water came just above the belly button. Safe to play without floaties.

Towels were pre-set on the poolside table, provided by the pension. Convenient to dry off our child each time they got out. Showers were done in the room’s bathroom.

“Mommy, can you build one of these at our house?!”

Our child played in the pool for about two and a half hours. Came inside for snacks, went back out, came in again, went out again. Stayed until sunset after 6 PM. Next morning, woke up and wanted to go back in immediately—played another 30 minutes.

BBQ: What to Bring and Practical Tips

BBQ deck. Grill, tongs, and utensils provided free—just bring charcoal and meat

We did BBQ for dinner. The pension provides a gas grill, tongs, plates, and chopsticks. Charcoal and lighter fluid aren’t provided, so you need to bring your own. We stopped at Yeosu E-Mart on the way and bought 4.4 lbs of pork belly, sausages, 6.6 lbs of charcoal, and lighter fluid. Total cost about $33.

The grill was gas-powered. I initially thought it was charcoal and bought coal, but it turned out to be gas. Ended up bringing the charcoal home unused. Gas grills are convenient, but you don’t get that signature charcoal flavor. It’s similar to cooking on an indoor grill plate at home.

Started grilling around 7 PM. Our child ate sausages at the side table while watching YouTube, and my husband and I grilled pork belly. Eating in the ocean breeze set a nice mood, but honestly, the meat was just… okay. Maybe because it was a gas grill, the outside didn’t get crispy.

Manseong Beach Walk, Morning Scenery

Manseong Beach at 8 AM. Almost no people, very peaceful

Next morning around 8 AM, we went out the pension’s back gate. Really took less than a minute to reach the sand. The beach is about 650 feet long—on the small side. But with so few people, it was perfect for letting our child run freely.

Our child collected seashells for about 30 minutes. Waves were gentle and water was clear. Too cold for swimming in April, but perfect for wading. My husband and I sat on a bench drinking coffee and watching.

There’s a walking path alongside the beach. It’s a wooden deck trail that looked stroller-friendly. We walked slowly with our child for about 10 minutes before turning back. Several benches along the way made nice rest stops.

Nearby Restaurants, Kid-Friendly Options

The pension doesn’t serve breakfast. You’re on your own for morning meals. We bought bread and milk at E-Mart the day before and had a simple meal in the room. Nearest convenience store is a CU about 5 minutes away by car.

For lunch after checkout, we went to Manseong Seafood Kalguksu restaurant. 3-minute drive from the pension. Saw it had 4.5 stars on Naver so we tried it—really delicious. Kalguksu (knife-cut noodles) $6 per bowl, seafood pancake $9. They had a high chair and provided a child’s bowl and fork.

Menu includes kalguksu, seafood kalguksu, clam kalguksu, and seafood pancake. We ordered two seafood kalguksu and one pancake. The broth was rich and seafood was fresh. I picked out just noodles for our child, who ate them well. Hours are 10 AM to 8 PM, closed Mondays. We parked in the lot in front of the restaurant.

If you want dinner out instead of BBQ, you’d need to go to Yeosu Romantic Pocha Street, about 20 minutes by car. But pocha street is too crowded and noisy with kids. Better option is the restaurant area near Yeosu Expo Yi Sun-sin Plaza. There are several restaurants with kids’ cafes there.

Downsides: Honest Review

Lots of positives, but some disappointing aspects too. First, no washing machine in the room. Our child’s clothes got wet during water play, but we couldn’t wash them. Just hung them in the bathroom and re-washed at home. Fine for one night, but inconvenient for longer stays.

Second, slow Wi-Fi. YouTube buffered constantly. We ended up using mobile data. If you need to work remotely or stream entertainment for kids, be prepared.

Third, soundproofing between floors wasn’t great. We could hear footsteps from the room above in the evening. Our child was too excited to sleep anyway, so it didn’t really bother us, but light sleepers might find it disruptive.

Fourth, the BBQ grill is gas, not charcoal. This isn’t necessarily bad, but I wished they’d specified it clearly in the listing. Would’ve saved me from buying unused charcoal.

Pricing and Booking Tips

We paid $200 for a weekend in late April. According to the owner, peak summer season (July-August) runs around $290-320 per night. Weekdays are about 30% cheaper. We booked through Naver reservations two weeks in advance.

Check-in is 3 PM, checkout is 11 AM. Late checkout costs an additional $50. Early check-in depends on cleaning availability—call ahead to ask.

Cancellation policy: Free cancellation up to 7 days before. 50% refund 3-7 days before. No refund within 3 days. Pretty standard for Korean pensions.

What to Pack for Kids

Here’s what we brought that was essential:

  • Swimsuit and swim diaper – Even in April, our child used the pool extensively
  • Rash guard – Sun protection for extended water play
  • Extra towels – Pension provides some, but we needed more for a messy toddler
  • Sunscreen – Strong sun exposure by the pool and beach
  • Snacks and drinks – Nearest store is 5 minutes away; easier to have on hand
  • First aid kit – Minor scrapes from running on the deck
  • Tablet with downloads – Wi-Fi is slow; pre-download videos
  • Night light – Bedrooms get very dark; helped our child sleep

What we didn’t need: The pension provides basic toiletries (shampoo, body wash, toothpaste). Also has a hairdryer. Kitchen has most cookware, so don’t overpack cooking items.

Would We Go Back?

Absolutely. Despite the minor downsides, the private pool and beach access made this trip memorable for our 48-month-old. Watching our child play freely in a safe, private pool without worrying about crowds was priceless.

The pension works best for families with young children (3-6 years old) who love water play. The shallow pool, short beach walk, and enclosed BBQ area all cater to this age group. Older kids might get bored—the beach is small and there aren’t many activities nearby.

We’re already planning to return in early fall, maybe late September when it’s still warm but less crowded. Next time we’ll skip the charcoal, bring more sandwich ingredients for easy meals, and pack our portable Bluetooth speaker for evening ambiance.

If you’re considering Yeosu for a family beach vacation and want the convenience of a private pool without sharing facilities, Manseong Beach pension delivers. Just manage expectations on Wi-Fi, bring your own entertainment for kids, and prepare simple meals to maximize your time by the water.

Recommended Gear for This Trip

A few items that made our stay more comfortable:

Inflatable pool floaties – Even though the pool is shallow, our child enjoyed floating around with arm floaties. Added an extra element of fun.

Portable cooler – Kept drinks cold by the pool and beach. The pension refrigerator is small, so having a cooler on the deck was convenient.

Beach toys – Bucket, shovel, and molds. Manseong Beach has nice sand for building castles. Our child spent an hour digging and creating.

Mosquito repellent – Evening BBQ attracted some bugs. Not terrible, but spray helped.

Reusable food containers – Great for storing leftover BBQ meat and bringing snacks to the beach.

You can find all of these on Amazon or local stores before your trip. Having them made the experience smoother and more enjoyable.

Final Thoughts

Manseong Beach pension gave our family exactly what we needed: a relaxing getaway with safe water play for our toddler, minimal travel stress, and beautiful beach access. The $200 weekend rate felt reasonable for a private pool, BBQ setup, and beachfront location.

It’s not luxury—Wi-Fi is slow, there’s no washing machine, and soundproofing could be better. But for families prioritizing outdoor play and quality time over fancy amenities, this place hits the mark.

Our 48-month-old still talks about “the house with our own swimming pool.” That reaction alone made the trip worthwhile. Sometimes the best family vacations aren’t about perfect accommodations—they’re about creating simple, joyful moments your kids will remember.

If you’re planning a Yeosu trip with young children, put Manseong Beach pension on your shortlist. Book early for peak season, bring your sense of adventure, and prepare for a wonderfully low-key beach escape.
