⚡ Quick Summary

  • Where · Yeosu Expo Ocean Park Hotel + Aqua Planet Kids Pool
  • Who · 3-year-old boy + 2 parents (3 days/2 nights, mid-April 2025)
  • Cost · Accommodation $360 (2 nights) + meals/admission $150 = Total $510

  • Best for · Families with toddlers (24-48 months) who love water play and need stroller-friendly locations

Last summer, we went to beachside accommodations, but our child was scared of the waves and we had to leave after just 10 minutes. This year, we switched to an indoor kids pool.

Yeosu Expo Ocean Park has the Aqua Planet aquarium right next to the hotel, with a dedicated kids pool inside. I booked it because of this setup. Here’s my honest review of our 3-day/2-night trip with our 3-year-old boy.

📌 Read this if you are:

  • Considering Yeosu accommodations with a 2-4 year old toddler
  • Love the beach but worried about waves and sand management
  • Want aquarium + kids pool + ocean view all in one place
  • Looking for stroller-friendly travel destinations

Why We Chose Yeosu Expo Ocean Park

When you search for Yeosu family hotels, several resorts come up, but most have outdoor pools or no dedicated facilities for babies.

Expo Ocean Park has a separate indoor kids pool (30-50cm depth), and the Aqua Planet admission tickets are included in the accommodation package, so you can play all day even if it rains. (The weather forecast was cloudy, actually.)

✅ Pro Tip — Kids pool admission is separate from Aqua Planet admission. Pay $6 extra per person at the on-site ticket office. Children under 3 are free.

Check-In — Ocean View Room Exceeded Expectations

We arrived Friday at 3pm. The check-in desk is on the 2nd floor, right in front of the elevator, so it was easy to navigate with a stroller.

We booked an Ocean View Deluxe Twin, and the floor-to-ceiling windows offered a panoramic view of Yeosu’s ocean. Our child stuck to the window shouting “Boat! Boat!” in excitement.

The twin beds can be pushed together, and the carpeted floor seemed safer in case our child fell. The room had both an air purifier and humidifier.

💡 Note — There’s no bathtub in the room. Only a shower booth. If you need a tub, you’ll have to look into the suite room.

Kids Pool — Why Our 3-Year-Old Played for 3 Hours

Saturday morning at 10am, we went to the Aqua Planet entrance. After entering the aquarium, go up to the 2nd floor where there’s a separate kids pool entrance.

The water depth is about 30cm, perfect for a 3-year-old to walk around independently. There are 2 slides, water gun play equipment, and a fountain tunnel, with good non-slip flooring.

“Mommy, again! Again!” He went down the slide over 50 times.

— Saturday morning record

It was quite crowded on the weekend, but arriving at 10am, we still got a spot. Around 11am, a waiting line formed.

The changing room has showers, hair dryers, and toddler toilets. Swim diapers are mandatory. You can buy them on-site for $2 each, but it’s better to bring your own.

⚠️ Important — Kids pool hours are 10:00-17:00, but it closes 12:00-13:00 for lunch break. Avoid that time slot.

Aqua Planet Aquarium — Our Baby Froze in Front of the Sharks

After 2 hours at the kids pool, we toured the aquarium. It has routes from the 1st to 3rd floor, with elevators, so navigating with a stroller was no problem.

At the main tank on the 1st floor where sharks and rays swim, our child stood glued to the glass for over 10 minutes. This is a kid who usually can’t stand still for 5 minutes.

The 2nd floor with otters and penguins draws huge crowds of children. It was packed on Saturday afternoon, but floor stickers helped with queuing.

The 3rd floor touch pool lets you touch starfish directly. But our 3-year-old ran away saying “No!” as soon as he touched one. Maybe it’ll be fun when he’s older.

Meals — Hotel Breakfast vs. Local Restaurants

The hotel’s 2nd floor has a breakfast buffet. $19 per adult, free for our 3-year-old. Good mix of Korean and Western food, with plenty of steamed eggs, sausages, and fruit for kids.

For lunch, we ate out. There’s a Korean restaurant called “Dolsan Mustard Kimchi Set Meal” 5 minutes away by car in the Dolsan-do area. The menu has three options: mustard kimchi set, grilled fish set, and abalone stone pot rice.

The mustard kimchi set ($9) comes with about 10 side dishes, including steamed egg, tofu, and seaweed that kids can eat. Hours are 11am-8pm, parking for 5-6 cars in front, and they havee high chairs.

✅ Pro Tip — For dinner, there are many child-friendly cafes and snack bars in Yeosu Jungang-dong area (15 min drive). “Jungang Market Gimbap Heaven” has non-spicy tteokbokki and gimbap that even 3-year-olds can eat.

First night dinner was at the hotel’s 1st floor restaurant (Japanese), which has kid-friendly items like pork cutlet and udon, about $38 for two. Second night we went to “Isabu Sashimi House” in Jungang-dong, but this was a mistake—it’s mainly spicy fish stew and grilled clams with nothing for our toddler. For families with babies, I recommend Korean restaurants, snack bars, or cafes.

What Else Is Nearby?

A 5-minute walk from the hotel is Expo Maritime Park. Well-maintained walking paths, great for strolling with a stroller while enjoying ocean views. We went around 6pm and caught a beautiful sunset.

Yeosu Cable Car is 10 minutes away by car, but we skipped it because our 3-year-old can’t sit still, though he’s not afraid of heights. Probably fine for 4+ years old.

Near Yeosu Maritime Cable Car, there’s a song monument and photo zone for “Yeosu Night Sea.” Lots of people taking photos, but it was fine for a quick family shot.

Downsides — Being Honest

There were many positives, but a few things were disappointing.

First, the kids pool closing for an hour at lunch was inconvenient. Our child was having so much fun and suddenly had to leave at noon, causing a tantrum. You can re-enter at 1pm, but it was awkward figuring out what to do in between.

Second, no microwave in the room. When heating snacks or milk for our child, we had to ask the front desk, which was a hassle. Should’ve brought a portable microwave.

Third, the parking garage is in the hotel basement levels 1-2, but on weekends it’s full and you have to go down to level 3. Elevator wait was about 5 minutes.

Cost Breakdown — How Much for 3 Days/2 Nights?

💰 Actual Expenses (Family of 2 adults + 1 toddler)

  • ✔ Accommodation (Ocean View Deluxe 2 nights, breakfast included): $360
  • ✔ Aqua Planet admission (2 adults): $45
  • ✔ Kids pool admission (2 adults): $12
  • ✔ Meals (2 lunches, 1 dinner out): ~$60
  • ✔ Gas & tolls (Seoul roundtrip): ~$35

Total: Approximately $512

What to Pack — Essentials We Actually Used

Looking back at what we packed, here’s what was truly essential:

  • Swim diapers (5-pack) — Used 3 total. Buying on-site is expensive.
  • Rash guard & swim trunks — Kids pool water temperature was comfortable, but UV protection good for outdoor walking
  • Waterproof phone pouch — For taking photos in the kids pool area
  • Extra clothes (2 sets) — Our child spilled everything at every meal
  • Portable snacks — Rice crackers, fruit pouches for car rides and waiting times
  • Stroller sunshade — Essential for walking around Expo Park in afternoon sun

What we didn’t need: floating devices (kids pool has them), beach toys (indoor only), baby food (restaurants had enough options).

Would I Go Again? Final Thoughts

Honestly? Yes, but probably when our child is around 5 years old.

The 3-year-old age was perfect for the kids pool depth and activities. But I think 4-5 year olds would enjoy both the pool and aquarium exhibits more fully. The touch pools, cable car, and walking tours would all be more engaging.

For families with toddlers who need controlled environments, can’t handle beach waves, or want everything in one location, this is nearly perfect. The 5-minute walk between hotel and all activities meant no car shuffling or long drives with a cranky toddler.

The price point ($500+ for 3 days) is mid-range for Korean family travel. You’re paying for convenience and peace of mind more than luxury. If you want fancy spa services or gourmet dining, look elsewhere. If you want your toddler to sleep well after wearing themselves out in a safe pool, this delivers.

📝 Bottom Line

Best for: Families with 2-4 year olds who want ocean views + indoor water play + aquarium in one spot, without the hassle of beach cleanup.
Skip if: You want outdoor adventure, your child needs a bathtub, or you prefer budget accommodations.
