⚡ Quick Summary

  • Where · Sea Mark Hotel Gangneung Ocean View Family Room (1 min walk to Gyeongpo Beach)
  • Who · 36-month-old girl + parents
  • Cost · $240 per night with breakfast included (weekend high season)
  • Tip · Request “high floor ocean view” at check-in for better room assignment
  • Recommended for · Families with toddlers wanting ocean view + pool + breakfast all in one place

I was skeptical at first. Gangneung hotel prices are no joke. But my 36-month-old loves the ocean so much, I wanted to do it right this time. The kind of place where you can hear the waves when you open the window. That’s why we chose Sea Mark Hotel Gangneung. Right in front of Gyeongpo Beach, the ocean view family room seemed like a safe space for our toddler to run around.

Third Saturday of April 2025, we drove 2.5 hours from Seoul. As soon as we checked in and opened the door, my daughter ran to the window yelling “Wow!” That one reaction made all my price concerns disappear.

💡 Note — Sea Mark Hotel is one of the larger hotels in Gangneung. With many rooms available, you can still find options on weekends if you book early.

✅ Read this if you are:

  • Planning a Gangneung family trip with a 24-48 month old
  • Looking for a hotel with guaranteed ocean views
  • Parents wanting pool, breakfast & kid amenities in one place
  • Driving families who value parking & accessibility

Ocean View Family Room — How Was the Layout?

Walking down the hallway from the elevator, the thick carpet made me worry less about noise from my toddler running. The room was about 33㎡. One king bed plus a separate sofa bed, so our daughter had her own sleeping space. (We planned to sleep together at first, but she preferred the sofa bed.)

The floor-to-ceiling window offered a 180-degree view of Gyeongpo Beach. We checked in around 3 PM and the sunlight sparkling on the ocean was almost blinding. My daughter stayed glued to the window for over 30 minutes saying “Mommy, look at the waves!” Seeing that made the price worth it.

✅ Pro Tip — At check-in, ask the front desk “Could we get a higher floor?” We got the 9th floor and the view makes a huge difference.

“Opening the window, the wave sounds were like white noise — my daughter napped quickly.”

— Notes right after visit

The bathroom had a separate bathtub and shower booth. The tub depth was a bit awkward for bathing a 36-month-old — slightly large — but she enjoyed playing in the water. Amenities were Innisfree products, with toothbrush, toothpaste, and razor all provided.

Breakfast Buffet — Was There Enough for Toddlers?

We went down to the first-floor restaurant at 7:30 AM. It was crowded on the weekend, but seating was ample. Several high chairs were available.

Menu had Korean, Western, and Japanese options. What our toddler could eat:

  • Scrambled eggs (lightly seasoned, perfect)
  • Sausages (thin Vienna style)
  • Roasted potatoes
  • White rice + seaweed soup (her favorite)
  • Fruit (watermelon, pineapple, grapes)
  • Cereal + milk station

Honestly, the kids’ menu wasn’t super diverse. But the basics were enough to fill her up. For adults, there was salmon salad, croissants, bacon, miso soup, kimchi stew — I was satisfied.

⚠️ Heads Up — Breakfast runs 7-10 AM, but popular items (salmon, croissants) run out after 9 AM. I recommend going before 8 AM.

Was the Pool Good for Toddlers?

We went to the pool around 4 PM on check-in day. The indoor pool is on B1, with separate adult and children’s pools. The kids’ pool depth was about 60cm — belly-button height for my 36-month-old standing up.

Water temperature was warm, but there were no play features like slides. Just a pool for splashing around. My daughter played for about 30 minutes before wanting to leave. (She wanted to go see the beach.)

You need to bring your own swimsuit, goggles, and floaties. The locker room has showers, and towels are complimentary. Operating hours were 6 AM-10 PM.

Q. Was the pool crowded?

On Saturday afternoon when we went, there were about 3-4 families. Not crowded, and we had the kids’ pool to ourselves. Weekend mornings or evenings might be busier.

How Was Parking & Accessibility?

The hotel has underground parking. Plenty of space, and elevators connect directly, making luggage transport easy. Parking is free for guests.

Gyeongpo Beach is a 1-minute walk from the hotel entrance. Cross the crosswalk and you’re on the sand. Perfect distance for walking with a toddler. We went after check-in, then again after dinner. Walking at night listening to the waves was lovely.

A convenience store (CU) is a 3-minute walk for snacks and drinks. Several cafes and restaurants are within a 5-minute walk.

Pros vs Honest Cons

Category Pros Cons
Room Floor-to-ceiling ocean view, separate sofa bed, clean Awkward bathtub depth, noisy fridge
Breakfast Basic toddler options available, fresh salmon & fruit Popular items run out after 9 AM, no dedicated kids’ corner
Pool Separate kids’ pool, warm water, free towels No play features, small kids’ pool
Location 1-min walk to beach, free parking, convenience store nearby Beach walkway crowded on weekends

What I loved most was the view. Opening the curtains in the morning to see the ocean — my daughter was amazed and we felt so relaxed. The downside was the fridge noise at night. It might bother light sleepers.

Nearby Restaurants — Toddler-Friendly Options

Besides hotel breakfast, we ate dinner out. Here are a few places suitable for dining with a 36-month-old.

1. Terarosa Gangneung

7-minute drive from the hotel. Famous coffee spot with kids’ menu (milk, juice). Spacious interior with high chairs, great for brunch and coffee. They sell simple bakery items like croissants and sandwiches. Ample parking and an outdoor terrace for nice weather. Open 9 AM-9 PM, year-round. Check Naver for latest menu and prices.

2. Chodang Grandma Soft Tofu

5-minute drive to Chodang-dong. Must-try soft tofu stew in Gangneung. My daughter loves soft tofu, so I mixed it with rice in the broth. Side dishes aren’t heavily seasoned, good for toddlers. High chairs available, parking available. Signature dish is soft tofu set meal (around $10). Hours and closures vary by season — check Naver before visiting.

3. Anmok Beach Coffee Street

10-minute drive from the hotel. Coffee street famous for hand-drip coffee. Many cafes have outdoor seating with ocean views. Our daughter enjoyed watching the waves while we had coffee. Most cafes offer milk and simple snacks. Parking available at public lots nearby. Stroller-friendly sidewalks. Great for an afternoon outing after nap time.

🍴 Meal Planning Tip

If your toddler is picky, bring familiar snacks. Hotel breakfast basics are safe, but having backups (crackers, fruit pouches) saved us when she got fussy at restaurants.

What to Pack for Toddlers

Based on our experience, here’s what you’ll actually use:

  • Swimsuit & swim diaper — Pool requires proper swim attire
  • Beach toys — Bucket, shovel for beach play (hotel doesn’t provide)
  • Sunscreen & hat — Beach sun is strong even in spring
  • Light jacket — Evenings by the ocean get breezy
  • Familiar snacks — Backup for picky eating moments
  • Night light — Room can get very dark (we used phone flashlight)

The hotel provides shampoo, body wash, and lotion, but if your toddler has sensitive skin, bring your own. We used the hotel products and had no issues.

Best Time to Visit with Toddlers

We went in late April and the weather was perfect — warm but not hot, breezy but not cold. My daughter could play on the beach without overheating.

Recommended seasons:

  • Spring (April-May) — Mild weather, fewer crowds than summer, lower prices
  • Fall (September-October) — Still warm enough for beach play, beautiful colors, pleasant temperatures

Avoid if possible:

  • Peak summer (July-August) — Very crowded, beach packed, higher prices, extreme heat for toddlers
  • Winter (December-February) — Too cold for beach activities, limited outdoor play

💡 Booking Tip — Weekday rates can be 30-40% cheaper than weekends. If your schedule is flexible, consider Sunday-Thursday stays for better value.

Sample 1-Night Itinerary

Here’s how we structured our trip with a 36-month-old:

Day 1 (Saturday)

  • 11:00 AM — Depart Seoul
  • 1:30 PM — Arrive Gangneung, lunch at Chodang soft tofu
  • 3:00 PM — Hotel check-in, room exploration
  • 4:00 PM — Indoor pool time (30 min)
  • 5:00 PM — Beach walk and play
  • 6:30 PM — Dinner near hotel
  • 8:00 PM — Evening beach stroll
  • 9:00 PM — Bath and bedtime

Day 2 (Sunday)

  • 7:30 AM — Breakfast buffet
  • 9:00 AM — Morning beach time
  • 10:30 AM — Pack and check out
  • 11:00 AM — Anmok Coffee Street
  • 12:30 PM — Drive back to Seoul

This pace worked well for us — not rushed, with nap flexibility built in. My daughter napped in the car on the way home.

Final Verdict — Worth It?

For around $240 per night including breakfast, is Sea Mark Hotel worth it with a toddler? My honest answer: Yes, if ocean views and convenience matter to you.

This isn’t a luxury resort with extensive kids’ clubs or elaborate facilities. It’s a solid mid-range hotel with excellent location, clean rooms, and the essentials done well. The ocean view alone justified the cost for us — seeing my daughter’s face light up at the window every morning was priceless.

Book this hotel if:

  • You want guaranteed ocean views without breaking the bank
  • Beach proximity is your top priority
  • You prefer all-in-one convenience (breakfast, pool, parking included)
  • Your toddler is content with basic pool and beach play

Look elsewhere if:

  • You need elaborate kids’ facilities (play zones, kids’ club)
  • You want a quieter, boutique hotel experience
  • Budget is tight (there are cheaper options further from the beach)

We’re already planning to return, maybe in fall when the weather cools down. That’s probably the best recommendation I can give.
