- Cost · 2 nights $285 + meals & car rental, total ~$600

Last winter we only went to Gangwon Province. This year, now that our child is over 36 months old, they started chanting “Mommy, I want to ride an airplane” ten times a day. So we decided on Jeju.
But choosing accommodation was tough. Resorts are expensive, and vacation rentals don’t have much for kids to do. After hours of searching, I discovered Sono Calm Jeju. When I saw it had a kids pool and indoor playground, I thought “This is it.”
We went for 2 nights and 3 days from Friday to Sunday in the second week of April 2024. Bottom line: our child went in the kids pool 5 times, and we relaxed on the room balcony reading books. (That’s what a real vacation is, honestly.)
💡 Note — Sono Calm is the former Daemyung Resort brand. It merged into Sono Group starting in 2023, and facilities were remodeled in 2021.
Room — Ocean View Deluxe, the Balcony is Huge
Check-in is at 3 PM. We took the 9 AM flight from Gimpo, picked up our rental car, and arrived right at 3. The lobby was smaller than expected, and most guests were families.
We booked an Ocean View Deluxe (Double). It has heated floors and is a studio-type layout with one room and no separate living area. The official site lists it as about 860 sq ft
“As soon as we stepped onto the balcony, our child shouted ‘Ocean!’”
— Right after check-in
The balcony is really spacious. There’s one table, two chairs, and even a drying rack. You get a direct ocean view, not toward Jungmun Beach but toward the Seogwipo coast. On clear days, they say you can see Marado Island.
The bed is one queen size. Perfect for sleeping with a 36-month-old. The bedding was clean, and there were 4 pillows so adjusting height was easy.
✅ Pro Tip — At check-in, ask the front desk “Do you have toddler toothbrush and toothpaste?” They’ll provide them if you request. We didn’t know and went to the convenience store the first night.
Room Amenities Checklist
- Coffee machine (4 free capsules provided)
- Refrigerator (small size, fits about 4 beer cans)
- Electric kettle
- TV (no Netflix connection, regular cable only)
- Bathroom — Separate shower booth + bathtub. Tub is large enough for one adult to lie down
- Toiletries — Shampoo, conditioner, body wash in refillable pump bottles
We bathed our child in the tub with hot water, and the water pressure was good and it filled quickly. However, drainage was a bit slow. It took about 5 minutes to drain.

Kids Pool — Why Our 36-Month-Old Went in 5 Times
Honestly, this was the main reason we booked Sono Calm. The kids pool is in a separate section within the indoor water park. Water depth ranges from about 12 inches at the shallowest to 31 inches at the deepest.
There are three slides. One small elephant-shaped slide and two curved slides. Our child’s favorite was the curved slide. The slope is gentle enough to go down alone.
Water guns and buckets are available. But on weekends there are many kids, so there’s some toy competition. If possible, bring a small water gun from home.
Kids Pool Tips (From Our Experience Only)
The first 30 minutes after the 10 AM opening is golden time. The first day we didn’t know and went at 2 PM—there were over 30 kids. The second day we went down at 10:10 AM. Only 5-6 kids were there, so no waiting for slides.
Bring two swimsuits. Our child went in twice a day, so one wasn’t enough. We tried drying it with a hand dryer the first evening, but it didn’t fully dry.
⚠️ Warning — There’s no snack bar inside the water park. You need to bring water and snacks beforehand. You can buy drinks from vending machines outside the locker room, but prices are 1.5x convenience store prices.
Tubes are free to borrow. They’re stacked at the kids pool entrance—just grab what you want. There are also adult-sized tubes so parents can float comfortably.
Changing rooms are gender-separated, with about 8 shower stalls each. On weekend afternoons you might have to wait. There are three hair dryers in the common area.
Indoor Playground — Good Rainy Day Alternative
It suddenly rained on the second afternoon. After leaving the kids pool, we went to the Kids Play Room. It’s located on the 2nd floor of the main building.
It’s not huge. One ball pit, one slide, a small trampoline, and a block play area. About 650 sq ft. Perfect for ages 3-5, but elementary schoolers would get bored quickly.
Operating hours are 10 AM to 6 PM. Open continuously with no lunch break. Parent supervision required, and there didn’t seem to be an entrance limit.
📋 What We Saw in the Kids Play Room
- □ Ball pit — Lots of balls but hard floor. Mat is laid down though
- □ Lego blocks — Duplo size, decent quantity
- □ Play kitchen set — Plastic food & kitchen tools
- □ Picture books — About 10 books available. Condition is average
Our child played here for about 40 minutes. Focused on the ball pit and blocks. From a parent’s perspective, there were only three chairs, which was inconvenient. On weekends, many parents stood watching.
Meals — Resort Dining vs. Outside, Which is Better?
There are two restaurants in the resort. One buffet restaurant and one Korean restaurant. The buffet operates breakfast and dinner only, while the Korean restaurant does lunch and dinner.
Sono Calm Breakfast Buffet Review
Price was $19 per adult, $11 for our 36-month-old. (April 2024 rates) We paid $30 total.
Menu is mixed Korean and Western. Porridge, steamed eggs, sausages, bacon, salad, bread, cereal, fruit, etc. Plenty for our child to eat. Just steamed eggs and sausages filled them up.
Taste is average. Nothing particularly delicious or terrible. If you expect hotel-quality breakfast, you’ll be disappointed. Just think of it as a “place to fill up.”
✅ Pro Tip — Breakfast buffet opens at 8 AM, but after 8:30 AM it’s hard to find seats. Try to go before 8:10 AM if possible.
Outside Restaurants — 10-Minute Drive Recommendations
We ate lunch and dinner outside. There are several restaurants 7-10 minutes by car from the resort.
Mackerel Sashimi Center (located in Jungmun-dong, Seogwipo) — This place specializes in mackerel sashimi and grilled mackerel. Kids are welcome, and high chairs are available. We ordered small mackerel sashimi ($26) + grilled mackerel ($9). Five side dishes come with it, plus doenjang stew. Our child ate grilled mackerel and rice. The sashimi was fresh with no fishy smell. However, parking is tight. On weekends there might be a wait, so check recent hours on Naver Place.
Jeju Byeolbang (inside Jungmun Tourist Complex) — Black pork specialist. We got 2 servings of grilled black pork ($30) and added cold noodles. Meat quality was good but portions felt small. No kids menu, so we ordered rice ($1.50) and cut meat into small pieces. The restaurant is spacious and clean. Parking is convenient.
💡 Note — Jungmun area is touristy, so restaurant prices are 10-20% higher than downtown Seogwipo. Budget accordingly.
