Getting to Home Marina Sokcho

From Seoul to Sokcho, it’s about a 2.5-hour drive by car. The express bus from Dong Seoul Terminal to Sokcho Express Bus Terminal takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes, but we drove for convenience since we were traveling with a baby.

We left after lunch to make the 3 PM check-in, but being a weekend, the Yeongdong Expressway was more congested than expected. The Hongcheon IC area took about 30 minutes longer than usual.

Check-in and Kids Room First Impressions

Check-in starts at 3:00 PM, and the hotel’s first-floor lobby is beautifully decorated with artwork and stylish furniture, with a subtle aroma that immediately lifted our mood. Next to the reception desk on the second floor, there’s an H2O station where we enjoyed refreshing herb & lemon water while leisurely checking in.

The staff were incredibly friendly during check-in. When we mentioned we were traveling with a baby, they thoroughly explained the kids room amenities and important guidelines.

The kids room was truly special. The small tent creates a focal point, providing an independent play space for children within the room. This tent transforms an ordinary room into a special space for kids while not interfering with the room’s flow, allowing parents’ rest areas and children’s play areas to naturally coexist. Parents can relax on the bed or sofa while children can read or play with toys inside the tent.

Our child was absolutely thrilled when they discovered the tent. They kept going in and out as if they had their own secret hideout. There was also a teddy bear on the window sofa that our little one absolutely loved.

Rooftop Infinity Pool Experience

Before dinner, we headed to the infinity pool first. Home Marina Sokcho’s highlight is definitely the rooftop infinity pool and SKY21 bar. Heated up to 46°C, it operates year-round with warm water, offering panoramic views of Cheongcho Lake, Sokcho’s ocean, and the city’s nightscape. The infinity pool, which creates the illusion of sky and sea meeting, has become the main reason people of all ages visit Home Marina Sokcho.

Our child’s eyes lit up the moment we arrived at the pool. Children under 36 months can use the pool wearing waterproof diapers, and free rental items include life jackets, arm floats, hammocks, and baby water toys. Besides the duck float we brought, there was a great variety of toys provided by the hotel.

The water temperature was perfect. Even in April, it was warm enough for our child to enjoy extended water play. For safety reasons, sitting on the infinity pool edge and using beach balls & tubes is restricted, but life jackets and arm tubes are allowed.

Evening Activities and Beach Exploration

After swimming, we warmed up in the hot springs. Our child was initially scared but quickly adapted, and we had a lovely healing time together.

We had dinner at a grilled fish restaurant near the hotel. From the ferris wheel, you can enjoy the sparkling clear sea and Sokcho during the day, and at night, a romantic atmosphere with brilliant lighting. The ferris wheel view from the restaurant was truly beautiful, though honestly, the food was just average.

Sokcho’s icon creates a magical spectacle at night, glowing against the dark sea. The nighttime LED lighting provides spectacular entertainment for tourists visiting Sokcho Beach with its brilliant illumination.

After dinner, we took a walk to Sokcho Beach. Sokcho Beach is bustling even at night, with nearby shops staying open late and about half the sandy beach brightly lit, attracting people taking post-dinner strolls, late-arriving tourists who head to the beach first, and those wanting to see the media art ‘Sea of Light, Sokcho’.

Sokcho City invested $110,000 to install 121 LED lights across a 200m section of the breakwater, illuminating the Sokcho Beach headland with colorful lights from sunset to midnight daily. When the lights turn on, the sparkling illumination reflects off the sea, embroidering the waves and creating a beautiful, mystical atmosphere.

Our child was fascinated by all the lights and kept running around. The wave-shaped railings were lovely, and we had a photo session at the shell-shaped sculptures.

The beach area has good street lighting and CCTV coverage, with nearby convenience stores and cafes where you can get simple drinks or snacks. It was perfect as an evening stroll destination.

Breakfast and Final Thoughts

The next morning, the breakfast we’d been looking forward to was really disappointing. Home Marina Sokcho’s breakfast uses local Gangwon Province ingredients to offer diverse international cuisine including Korean, Western, and Japanese styles, with unique menu items like pearl barley and muesli & sauce that are hard to find at other hotels. Baby chairs are available in one section of the restaurant, and baby utensils are provided, making it suitable for families traveling with children.

While the facilities were nice, the food management felt inadequate. They promoted their chef extensively, but the reality didn’t meet expectations.
